  • John Hunerberg
    Owner / Project Manager

    John's interest in carpentry started in his high school cabinetry class. After completing his training and education in the carpentry field, he began working for a local home builder. His next 4 years were spent working for a well-known construction firm, after which John decided to work for himself and slowly started to build his own company.

    John founded Hunerberg Construction in 1984.  For the first few years, the company focused mainly on residential projects. As a result of a solid reputation for honesty and quality workmanship, continuous referrals led to a steady flow of work and the necessity for the company to grow and diversify. John began bidding commercial, public and multi-housing projects.  His completed work  ranges from minor remodels to multi-million dollar construction projects.  John's extensive knowledge in all areas of construction has generated expert witness service for numerous water intrustion and construction defect projects.


     

  • Jeff Ophoven
    Operations Manager / Project Manager

    Jeff joined Hunerberg Construction in 2006 with 25 years of business and construction experience.  His experience includes both residential and commercial construction as well as ownership and management of commercial and residential properties.

    Jeff assists in day to day operations of the company along with water intrusion and construction defect cases.  As a project manager he works with the owners from start to finish on repairs to full remodels of residential and commercial projects.

    He has built extensive relationships with attorneys, engineers and inspection firms in our area which enables him to make this difficult process for the owners a more positive experience.


     

  • John Lawyer
    Project Manager

    John began his construction career as a project manager for a commercial roofing firm in Minneapolis. He quickly realized that his future was in General Contracting, and soon made the move to small general contracting firm where he developed a strong base of clients in the hospitality industry.

    John joined Hunerberg Construction in 2011, bringing with him over a decade’s worth of experience building and remodeling bars and restaurants for national chains, franchisees, and local independent operators.


     

  • Phil Dyrud
    Project Manager

    Phil began his construction career in 2005 working for Marshal Field's which later became Macy's.  In 2008 he started working for a local general contractor as a project manager.

    Phil joined Hunerberg Construction in late 2014.  He specializes in commercial projects and has completed a variety of retail, educational and medical construction projects.  Phil has also completed projects for multiple national retail chains and has done work in 48 states.


     

  • Jeff Bullis
    Senior Field Superintendent

    Jeff started his construction career as a carpenter for a residential contractor in Fargo, ND.  After 15 years in Fargo area, Jeff's employer transferred him to their metro office.  Jeff liked the area and decided to stay after the closing of that office.  He has been with various contractors since and started working for Hunerberg Construction in 2003.

    Jeff's skills as a field superintendent are exceptional and Jeff has the ability to successfully complete some of Hunerberg Construction's more difficult projects.  In addition to his duties as a superintendent, Jeff heads-up Hunerberg Construction's mentoring program where he trains field personnell on topics such as safety, general carpentry and subcontractor management.


     

  • Evan Siltala
    Field Superintendent

    Evan started in the construction industry at the age of 9 as a laborer for a local mason in his hometown of Cokato Minnesota. After graduating from high school, Evan enlisted in the Air Force and became a highly decorated solider. Upon fulfilling his Air Force enlistment, Evan return to the metro area and worked as a journeyman carpenter before joining Hunerberg in early 2007.

    Extensive carpentry and drywall experience combined with his participation in the mentoring program at Hunerberg Construction has trained Evan well for his position as a field superintendent. His knowledge as a carpenter and solid work ethic has been a welcome addition to the staff at Hunerberg Construction.


 

  • Dennis Capistrant
    Field Superintendent

    Dennis' construction career started at Ace Hardware in North St. Paul when he was 14.  He worked there for 2 years, and while working there, met various tradesmen who hired him to help them remodel basements and bathrooms.  He also learned how to replace windows and build decks.  During this time he also worked in a wood shop for alittle over a year - all while in high school!

    After he graduated from North High School, he held a building maintenance job for 3 years.  Wanting to get back into construction, he applied to and was hired by Hunerberg Construction in 2003.  He worked mostly in our Residential Division the first 3 years and has now expanded his skills to the Commercial Division.

Aaron Johnson
Field Superintendent

After a bried history in security and glass manufactoring, Aaron started his construction career with Tappe Construction in 2003 as a finish carpenter.  He became construction crew lead in 2009.  Aaron's experience at Tappe Construction included trimming commercial spaces and multi/single family residential remodels  and new construction ranging from Section 8 to multi-million.

Aaron joined Hunerberg Construction in 2010.  Aaron has been involved in numerous water intrusion repair projects, residential remodels, restaurant build-outs/remodels and retail remodels.  His attention to detail, communication and work ethic has resulted in Aaron performing as a Job Superintendent for numerous projects.


 

  • Jan Johnson
    Office Manager

    Jan came to Hunerberg Construction in 2006 from the CM Architecture firm in Minneapolis where she had worked for 26 years.  She started there as an Accounting/Payroll Manager and left as the Director of Finance.

    She is the backbone of our company and runs our office with smooth, accurate and professional dedication.  Her attention to detail and her well honed memory are indespensable to our operation.  Her skills in accounting, budgeting, contract administration and time management have made Hunerberg Construction an efficient, cost effective, well managed firm.
