John is a native of the northwest suburbs of the Twin Cities and currently resides in Maple Grove. John founded Hunerberg Construction over 20 years ago. His interest in building started at 18 while in his high school cabinetry class. After completing his training and education in the carpentry field, he began working for a local home builder. His next 4 years were spent working for a well-known construction firm, after which John decided to work for himself and slowly started to build his own company.

For the first few years, the company focused mainly on residential projects. As a result of a solid reputation for honesty and quality workmanship, continuous referrals led to a steady flow of work and the necessity for the company to grow. In order to diversify, John began bidding commercial and public projects for local cities and counties. Through a process of networking and word-of-mouth referrals, Hunerberg Construction now has a variety of loyal commercial and residential clients.

   

Amy Gabbard
Senior Project Manager

Amy's experience with construction also began in high school while taking several drafting courses.   These classes provided her with an introduction to commercial construction which grew into a passion while attending the University of Wisconsin - Menomenie, where she majored in Construction Management.

After college, she began her professional career with Ryan Companies as a project manager on their special projects team which focuses mainly on large-scale tenant improvement projects.   After almost 5 years with Ryan Companies, Amy worked for another general contractor before starting with Hunerberg Construction in early 2003.   Amy's attention to detail and superior organizational skills have been a great benefit to everyone at Hunerberg Construction.   She has brought a wealth of real world experience and knowledge to our group.

   

Jeff Bullis
Senior Field Superintendent

Jeff started his construction career as a carpenter for a residential contractor in Fargo, ND.   After 15 years in the Fargo area, Jeff's employer transferred him to their metro office.   Jeff liked the area and decided to stay after the closing of that office.   He has been with various contractors since then and started working for Hunerberg Construction in 2003.

Jeff’s skills as a field superintendent are exceptional and Jeff has the ability to successfully complete some of Hunerberg Construction’s more difficult projects. In addition to his duties as superintendent, Jeff heads-up Hunerberg Construction’s mentoring program where he trains field personnel on topics such as safety, general carpentry and subcontractor management.

   

Mike Lally
Project Manager / Designer

Mike’s start in the construction industry began in Maryland where he successfully operated a residential remodeling company called Craftmasters. With an AA degree in Architectural Drafting & Design and a BA in Construction Management, Mike also owned and operated Architectural Drafting Techs for more than nine years. During that time he employed as many as six CAD technicians and catered to a commercial clientele of architects, developers, and general contractors.

With a well rounded educational background and plenty of hands-on experience, Mike joined Hunerberg in early of 2005 as a Project Manager to help oversee some of Hunerberg’s larger projects. On occasion, Mike’s space planning and design skills are utilized to enhance our menu of construction services for our customers.

   

Jeff Ophoven
Water Intrusion Project Manager

Jeff joined Hunerberg Construction in 2006 with 25 years of experience in all aspects of business. Raised in the Twin Cities, his first major employer was Walman Optical. He then went on to start, own and sell numerous businesses in the northwest metro.

He was new to the construction field, but as with everything he does, he learned the information quickly and has mastered the art of bidding projects and selling our company to clients.

Jeff is in charge of our Water Intrusion Division and has built extensive relationships with Attorneys, Engineers and Inspection firms which enable him to make this difficult process for homeowners a more positive experience.

   

Jan Johnson
Office Manager

Jan came to Hunerberg Construction in 2006 from the CM Architecture firm in Minneapolis where she had worked for 26 years. She started there as an Accounting/Payroll Manager and left as the Director of Finance.

She is the backbone of our company and runs our office with smooth, accurate and professional dedication. Her attention to detail and her well honed memory are indespensable to our operation. Her skills in accounting, budgeting, contract administration and time management have made Hunerberg Construction an efficient, cost effective, well managed firm.

Jan has raised 2 sons and 1 daughter and is about to see them all happily married. She has been married to her husband, Dr. Roger A. Johnson, for 30 years.
